Overview

Mizō ("we," "our," or "the app") is a meal planning application available at mizo.cooking. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

Account information: When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google account. We store this to identify your account.

Google Calendar access: If you choose to sync meals to Google Calendar, we request permission to create and manage calendar events on your behalf. We only create events related to your meal plans and never read or modify your existing calendar events.

App data: Recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, household information, and nutrition estimates you create within the app are stored in our database to provide the service.

How We Use Your Information

• To authenticate you and maintain your session
• To create Google Calendar events for your meal plans (only when you explicitly request it)
• To share recipes, meal plans, and shopping lists with your household members
• To estimate nutritional information for your recipes using AI
• To provide and improve the service

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Google OAuth & Google Calendar API – for authentication and calendar sync. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• Google Gemini AI– to estimate recipe nutrition and scan recipe images. Ingredient data is sent to Google's AI service for processing. No personal information is included in these requests.
• Vercel – hosts the application. Subject to Vercel's Privacy Policy.
• Neon – hosts our database. Subject to Neon's Privacy Policy.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Neon with encryption at rest. All connections to the app use HTTPS. Authentication tokens are managed securely via industry-standard JWT sessions.

Data Retention & Deletion

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your recipes, meal plans, and shopping lists at any time within the app. To delete your account entirely, contact us at the email below and we will remove all associated data within 30 days.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Revoke Google permissions at any time via your Google Account settings

Children's Privacy

Mizō is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "last updated" date.
